[Founder Feature @TC] Jan 2020

Name: Lim Weiyuan, Founder, 29yo, Singaporean

Technopreneur Circle member: Since June 2017

Company: Reactor School (EduTech)

Website: www.reactor.school

Fun facts about me:

I have never worked a corporate job; started my first business with two friends in the tuition space in 2010, then moved to Reactor in 2012 in my second year of university. Despite being a huge introvert, I have clocked the highest number of training hours in Reactor and have been in charge of Training and Training Ops for Reactor for about 6 years now.

The company under 20 words:

Reactor runs Entrepreneurship programmes for students aged 13-24, helping them turn their ideas into projects, and projects into reality.

What my company name & logo means:

Reactor helps aspiring student entrepreneurs turn their ideas into projects, and their projects into companies. When the right elements are brought together in the right environment, a reaction occurs.

Why I started the company & my journey so far:

When I was in my schooling years, I always had a lot of ideas and projects I wanted to work on. However when I shared them with my peers, teachers and parents, their reactions would always be for me to focus on my studies instead. The message was for me to dampen my curiosities and focus on “what mattered” in terms of grades and academic progression, which I found to be a restrictive definition for people like myself. Hence, I wanted to use entrepreneurship as the broadest medium to allow youth to pursue their ideas and satisfy their intellectual curiosity.

Reactor was founded back in 2012. I was 22 and met Rusydi and Jing Wen at a Reactor Roundtable. I had just closed my first business, and was looking for internships in the start-up space. Rusydi pitched the idea of Reactor to me and I felt that this was a cause I could dedicate myself to. So I interned with Reactor to clear my 10 weeks and ultimately converted into a co-founder! I am the intern who never left!

Now, we are designing and conducting Entrepreneurship Education programmes for schools in Singapore and major cities around the region such as Jakarta and Bangkok. Our work enables young people to start working on the world’s biggest problems, creating lasting positive change, and in so doing, contribute to society and humanity.

My lightbulb advice:

Give yourself the chance to take up experiences that will allow you to understand yourself better. With this, you are better able to define what is important to you and following that, your purpose in the long run. Once you have defined this Why, you will be able to chart your path with greater confidence and clarity.

I am looking for:

Investors; Mentors, Advisors, and Partners who can connect us to the ASEAN education space; Talents (team members)
